It's New Year in Thailand. People go to Bangkok's street and celebrate by throwing water at each other and playing loud music. It's pretty wet so not that easy to keep my camera dry :-)

Don't miss out on Platinum Food Court on 7th level. That's where Bangkok's youth likes to eat out for 40 Baht a meal. One of the small restaurants offers some of the best Pad Thai Goong (fried Thai rice with shrimp). Sometimes budget places like food courts offer more tasty food compared to expensive restaurants in tourist areas.

Escalators lead from one to next level. Platinum Mall is airconditioned. Best times for shopping are 10 am to 6 pm. Weekends can be very busy.

To no surprise Terminal 21 Mall offers a great new restaurant area together with a huge food court presenting many styles of cuisine and a great view of Asoke area with residential high rises, parks and streets. Riding escalators is fun in Terminal21. There are always a lot of things to observe.

The main entrance: Gate 4. Here is where visitors arriving with MRT or BTS Skytrain enter.

Many parts of Terminal 21 Mall are themed. This part in front of Pier 21 food court and restaurants shows a replica of San Francisco's Golden Gate.

Finally, Terminal 21 Shopping Mall opened it's doors for it's Grand Opening on October 11, 2011. Lot's of events taking place and the place is always busy. The mall is structured differently than Bangkok's other topshelf shopping centers. Lower levels are occupied by mid-priced brands like Esprit, Jaspal and Nike, while mid levels host moderately priced fashion stores. Upper levels offer food and beverage adventures like Pier 21 food court and 8 movie theaters. Many escalators and signs make this location look like an airport building. Hey, reminds me about the movie 'The Terminal' with Tom Hanks.

Terminal 21 (pre-open)

Still under construction: Terminal 21 is scheduled to open in August 2011.

It's taking shape and construction is in it's final stage: Sukhumvit's new mega shopping mall Terminal 21 is set to open in October 2011. It's perfect location at intersection of Asoke Road and direct skyway access from MRT station Sukhumvit and BTS station Asok make it the most conveniently located shopping mall in New Bangkok. To my culinary delight Terminal 21 will be hosting a branch of Tony Romas Steak and Ribs Restaurant. Once the mall is open I will take some more images and post them here. Hope you will make it here soon. Sorry for the shaky image below. Took it with my iPhone while carrying my shopping goods from Robinson's department store.

Night Markets on Sukhumvit

Sukhumvit Road is crowded with cars and pedestrians as large numbers of street vendors offer goods for Farangs and other tourists. The goods on display are mostly cheap clothing, jewelry and Thai souvenirs like wood carved sculptures and paintings. Late at night stalls are replaced by restaurants serving food and beverages until early in the morning for barflies and other creatures of the night. It's very safe to walk and shop on Sukhumvit Road during day and night time.
The busiest areas can be found between Skytrain BTS stations Asok and Nana. Most Sois offer Thai massage shops and restaurants. Although this is the main tourist strip of Bangkok, prices are still reasonable and there is always room for negotiations.

Patpong at Night

Patpong is a busting place at night. Countless vendors sell souvenirs, bags, clothes, shoes, jewelry and watches. Hustlers try to lure first time tourist into dark corners with seedy bars. Actually, the bars are the main attraction for single male travelers who want to enjoy booze and watching scantily clad agogo dancers inside the neon-lit bars with seductive names like 'Super Pussy' and 'Electric Blue'. Many bars have very attractive 'ladies', but be aware a lot of the gorgeous ladies inside the bars have been men before they underwent gender change surgery. If you can't hold back from visiting those bars, watch your bill. These places are known for bill padding for shows and ladydrinks.

MBK Shopping

Located in the heart of the city in walking distance of Siam Square and the National Stadium lays Bangkok's first large shopping center MBK. It's stores sell about every merchandise that is available from clothes to furniture, but it is best known for it's large electronics section of cellular phones. Brand new and second hand mobiles are available for a fraction of prices that most tourists are used from their home countries.
